Quickblade's Andrea Moller on Outside Magazine Brasil
Outside Magazine Brasil has named Quickblade team racer, Andrea Moller, "Most Important Brazilian Waterwoman". Moller, the reigning champion and record holder of the 32 mile World Championship Molokai to Oahu SUP race, also landed on the cover of the magazine's April edition.
"Recieving this recognition from my native country is amazing and means alot to me" said Moller, who now resides on Maui's north shore. In addition to her success in the Molokai Channel SUP race, winning the women's relay division from 2005 to 2008, 2nd place in her first solo attempt in 2009 and winning the 2010 race in an even 6 hours, Moller has similar outrigger canoe results. A 3 time World Champion paddling for Team Bradley in the Na Wahine O Ke Kai OC-6 race, Moller also has won the OC-1 relay channel crossing.
Moller's resume does not end there as she is one of the few women who regularly charge the giant the waves of Maui's Jaws. She and fellow Brazilian waterwoman, Maria Souza, were the first female tow team at the infamous big wave venue.
Accolades and podiums aside, it's Andrea Moller, the working mother and wife that seems to have won her countrymen's hearts. Appearing in the Brazilian reality show Osso Buro which translates to Hard Core, viewers were introduced to the woman out of the water that deals with life's issues just like everyone else. "It was fun just being myself and having people identify with my personality and not just a photo", said Moller.
Reality is not just a show for the 31 year old Moller, who has been working her way through paramedic school while working full time as an EMT. Ironically it's this career decision that will limit her appearances in 2011 SUP races. "I will be mostly taking this year off from competition due to lack of time to train properly," admits Moller. "Once I get through school and feel my future is more certain, I hope to be able to commit more time to my paddling."
Moller still plans to defend her title as SUP World Champ in this years race and will be teaming up again with Maui's Lauren Bartlett in the Molokai Channel OC-1 relay.
